I
am a painter.
I am currently
studying for an MA in Fine Art and Education at The University of
Northumbria in Newcastle. In my first year I was interested in
developing my imaginative landscape paintings and my area of
educational research was called "Breaking down
barriers to Contemporary Art".
Since the start of the
course my work has changed direction moving away from landscape and
towards an investigation into sound and vision.
Sound Painting
Paintings 2008
I sometimes ask
the students to help me with my research
by participating in more unusual sessions such
as the Jackson Pollock 'event' at Romaldkirk
Reading room.
As well as exploring new ways
to paint I also teach traditional watercolour
techniques and drawing from life. Topics
include, watercolour
landscapes, painting
flowers, composition, colour mixing, figure
drawing, still life.
In the Spring Term we also
try to have a trip to an art gallery. The picture
shows the Eggleston and Romaldkirk students
arriving at the Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal.
This year we visited Salts
Mill at Saltaire near Bradford. The mill houses many works by David
Hockney and we are inspired to try out other drawing and painting
ideas for Summer and Autumn terms.
At the end of each term we usually
have lunch at a local restaurant and for the Middleton group an evening meal.
If you would like to come along and join us, beginners
are welcome.
You will mainly need to bring watercolour paper,
watercolour brushes, size 7 and 10 (or 14)
Three colours in tubes, (Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt
Blue or Ultramarine Blue, and Cadmium Yellow),
a mixing palette, (or old white plate) and a water
pot.
Also a sketch book and pencils of different grades
would be useful for some drawing lessons.
The courses last for 10 weeks
in term time and cost £35 (There are some
concession prices) Click on Teaching (above)
to find out more.
